The land was used by Duncan Penney, who had lived at the Back Crook all of his life, for grazing sheep
May 2009: Duncan Penney left specific instructions to his trustees that the land was to be used as a community woodland as a memorial for the Penney family. The executors of the will door-dropped all the surrounding houses and a committee of around 12 people was formed
2009 - 2010: The committee looked at the options and plans began to take place for the Woodland, using available support from the Woodland Trust
2010 - 2012: A long and protracted time during which legal hand over off the land to the elected Trustees was completed, during which time the committee determined the process to plant the trees
2013 - 2014: The ground was cleared by the local community, then cut, and trees were planted with the support of the Woodland Trust’s MoreWoods Scheme
2018: Penneys Wood gained support from the Fossoway and District Community Benefit Fund. This has allowed us to purchase and install benches
