Our Story

Penney’s Wood began as a gift—a piece of land left to our local Fossoway community by the late Duncan Penney. What started as a shared local vision has grown into a collective effort to plant, care for, and protect a vital native woodland for generations to come.

Following his bequest, residents came together to form a community group to turn that vision into reality. Since our first saplings were planted in 2014, we have worked year by year to shape paths and restore biodiversity, transforming a generous act into a living, shared space for all.

Community Roots

Penney’s Wood is a woodland for everyone, planted by neighbors and cared for by local families. We regularly host community work days where volunteers of all ages come together to maintain paths, plant native species, and protect Fossoway’s natural heritage.
